TRANSCEND '06

 
Alliance Business Academy, one of the leading business school in the country, organized their annual Management and cultural festival, Transcend ‘06 at the Town Hall and the Satya Sai Samskrutha Sadanam on the 3rd and 07th of October. The fest was inaugurated by Dr. Pallab Bandhopadhyay, Director, NHRD. The event was totally a student driven activity guided by Prof M.A. Raja Sekhar. The Transcend ‘06 team consisted of Anil Chandran, Joemon Pathrose, Inigo Pravin , Prajwal, Divya C. Nair, Veena S. Nair, Abdul Majeed and Onkith Dutta Chaudhury. The USP being one of the premier and most sought after inter-collegiate cultural fest in Bangalore.
The cultural event went a long way in getting Business School students to employ their creative talents which otherwise is not an integral part of their curriculum. The event helped foster a larger understanding and appreciation of issues that are rarely discussed in Business Management textbooks. It got the students to realize how important it is to develop a well rounded personality which was only possible if they exposed themselves to cultures and ways of life other than their own. All of the participating students felt that they had broadened their outlook as well as their horizons by taking part in Transcend’s cultural extravaganza. For everyone, in addition to a healthy spirit of competition that prevailed, it was as much a journey into understanding. A journey they enjoyed to the fullest!
Transcend is part of the rich legacy at Alliance and has also become part and parcel of the larger learning experience that students are exposed to. The organizers of Transcend ‘06 ensured that Transcend cultural extravaganza got better year after year. This year too Transcend completely exceeded everyone’s expectations. A one of a kind cultural festival, unique in its design and content, Transcend ‘06 showcased the enigmatic cultural diversity of India. The festival was spread across two days and was open to students of various management institutes which included institutions from around the country. Transcend ‘06 provided a common platform for aspiring corporate executives of tomorrow to showcase their talents in fine arts. The attempt went beyond just a cultural extravaganza; it brought together creativity, discipline and managerial abilities of students who will in the future, become corporate head honchos and even entrepreneurs. Transcend ‘06 endeavored to promote cultural harmony & fostered a confluence of talent amongst the most influential & vibrant inhabitants of Bangalore.
Christened, Transcend ‘06 – Renaissance of Creativity, the city of Bangalore bore witness to the creative and analytical talents of business school students. The first day of Transcend ‘06 was dedicated to management games and exercises that pitted the best brains in B-schools, against each other. And what a contest it was! The Mock Press contest had students manning the mantle of corporate heavy weights, among others, Lakshmi Mittal of Arcelor Mittal, Kiran Majumdar Shaw of Biocon; also being subject to critical scrutiny by the judges and the audience by having to answer a wide variety of questioning. The other contests, including the ‘reinvention of logos’ had the audience bedazzled by the young business school minds. The audience was left exclaiming that the corporate world could learn a lot from the young minds present at the venue. The first day of the festival saw 50 Business Schools from around the country participating. Winners were declared at the end of the day and one common characteristic was the slim margins that separated the winners from the second prize winners.
The second day at Transcend ‘06 was equally well awaited. Bangalore city eagerly looked forward to witnessing a cultural spectacle par excellence. And they were not disappointed. Organized at the Staya Sai Samskrutha.., the cultural extravaganza got off to a colorful start with the Yaksha Gana being put up by a team of boys and girls from one of the Business Schools. The dance recital mesmerized the audience who witnessed breathtaking choreography, costumes, music and colour. Transcend ‘06 cultural show had started with a truly wonderful show. What were to follow was a sight to behold. The participating teams put up tableaus depicting Kannada culture, the warmth of Rajasthan, joyous and pompous people of Punjab to the quiet grace and dignity of Odissi dances , all of which were a feast for the eyes. Each team stretched it self to depict tableaus that were authentic and well choreographed, The props and material for different tableaus included camels for the Rajasthani team to embody the spirit of Rajasthan, tractors brought in the scenic beauty of the fields of Punjab. All costumes were carefully crafted to depict the way of life with in their respective states. The traditional attire of Tamil Nadu the magnificient kancheepuram sarees stole the hearts of everyone present at the occasion, it was mind boggling to see the wide variety of dresses worn across the different states in India, each clearly distinct and unique. The music echoed the reverberating sounds of each state, unique and full of character. The energetic sounds of balle-balle mixed with the harmonious melody of the flute from the holy cities of Uttar Pradesh which defined the diversity in Indian music. It clearly was a holistic exposition of Indian culture and brought out the best of what India has to offer.
The event projected a mélange with everybody at the auditorium marveling at the vivacious vibrant and enigmatic culture that exists in perfect harmony in our country. The audience was also heard expressing their immense joy at having witnessed a spectacle that brought them closer to the vibrant motherland that is India. Everyone agreed that they were looking forward to the next year and they were sure that they would witness an even grander spectacle. The two day event drew to its conclusion with the valedictory function.
